In 1990 His Holiness Vishwaguru Mahamandaleshwar Paramhans Swami Maheshwarananda Puri laid the foundation stone of a large-scale project called the “Om Vishwa Deep Gurukul Swami Maheshwarananda Ashram Education & Research Centre” (commonly referred to as the “Om Ashram”) under the shelter of Sri Devpuriji Ashram Trust and International Sri Deep Madhavananda Ashram Fellowship.
The Ashram has established an animal refuge called Om Shree Deveshwar Mahadev Gaushala which cares for many old, homeless and sick animals. It provides humane veterinary care for few hundred old, homeless and sick animals.

The Ashram has obtained a 10,000 litre water-tanker, to provide a regular supply of water to local villages.
Equipped with fire fighting equipment, the tanker and the fire-fighting team, available for fire fighting 24 hour a day, have several times shown their efficiency.

In the peak season for fires temperatures are 48-50 degrees centigrade and the winds are strong and dry. During this time the Ashram fire brigade is called on 2-3 times a day and in the hot season they answer around 100 calls for help.
