International Yoga Conference YOGACON-2004, Jaipur/India
An international yoga conference, called "YOGACON-2004", was held from 16th to 18th of January 2004 in Jaipur/India. The conference was sponsored by Rajasthan Swasthya Yoga Parishad (RSYP) from Jaipur and received blessings of His Holiness Mahamandaleshwar Yogiraj Swami Maheshwaranandaji Maharaj, who inaugurated the conference and took part at several events and sessions.
The main theme was "Yoga in daily life for harmony of body, mind and soul" and the topics that were addressed covered asanas (their concepts, importance, healing aspects), yogic diet, role of yoga in education, philosophy of yoga, its values and spirituality. The plenary session, where all key-note speakers addressed the audience, was followed by several concurrent sessions of paper presentations, discussions and practical demonstrations of asanas, kriyas, pranayams and meditation.
Mahamandaleshwar Paramhans Swami Maheshwaranandaji presented a paper titled PRACTICE OF "YOGA IN DAILY LIFE" CAN HEAL HUMANKIND in which he addressed yoga as a science and gave practical instructions for attaining physical, emotional and mental balance, all of them being different steps to the highest goal, the Self-Realization. Swamiji concluded that "Yoga should not be lived separately from our daily lives. And this is the very idea of the System 'Yoga in Daily Life'. To live twenty-four hours a day according to the principles of ahimsa (non-violence), acceptance, tolerance and love for all living beings, to understand, forgive, love, serve, believe, worship, meditate and realize. Yoga in Daily Life will surely lead you to achieve the ultimate goal of Self-Realization. That is, to become one with God".
Background
Late Shri Jaswant Singh Sanghi, having himself experienced the benefits of Yoga was moved to propagate this age-old knowledge of India's great Rishis, for the benefit of the people of Jaipur and with an eye for the whole of Rajasthan. An institution by the name of Rajasthan Swasthya Yoga Parishad (RSYP) was formed in the year 1974 and was registered. He devoted his life to this mission and was successful in obtaining a big piece of land on New Police Academy Road in the heart of Shashtri Nagar, Jaipur, at a very concessional rate from the Govt. of Rajasthan, where a huge three-storey building of the name of YOG BHAWAN stands today – a fitting tribute to his memory.
After the passing away of Shri Sanghiji, Sarvashri J.P. Bhartiya, R.D. Baheti, S.K. Jindal, R.P. Pareek, Gajanand Shah & N.M. Katariya took over the charge as president of this esteemed institution under the guidance of our Chief Patron, Dr. Rameshwar Sharma, Ex-Vice Chancellor of the University of Rajasthan & Administrator of Mahavir Cancer Hospital, Jaipur.
As one of the biggest Yoga institutes of Rajasthan, RSYP has been doing its bit in spreading Yoga through 20 Yoga Centres in Jaipur and the surrounding area. It has arranged more than 500 yoga camps and has spread the message of yoga amongst more than 25,000 people of all religions. RSYP has its own large well-furnished building, operating a naturopathic hospital and Yoga Centre at Yoga Bhawan, Police Academy Road, Shastri Nagar, Jaipur. It has also organized yoga conferences from time to time, the last being "YOGACON-98", which was attended by more than 500 delegates from all over India.
