International Day of Yoga 2016 celebrated in Czech Republic
Yoga in Daily Life associations across the Czech Republic joined in with the global celebrations of the 2nd International Day of Yoga on 21 June 2016. This year’s IDY programs organized by Yoga in Daily Life were held under the auspices of H.E. Krishan Kumar, Ambassador of India to the Czech Republic.
In many Czech cities and towns, members of the public had an opportunity to attend free yoga programs for a full week around June 21. In total, almost 70 different events were organized by Yoga in Daily Life associations, in 31 cities and towns, and about 2,300 people participated in them between June 16 and 25.
Most of the programs included the practice of yoga asanas according to the Yoga in Daily Life system, both indoors and in public parks and other outdoor venues. In some cases, additional special events were organized, such as:
- a series of lectures by medical experts about the benefits of yoga, held in the second largest Czech city of Brno;
- a program dedicated to yoga with and for children, at an elementary school in Prague;
- mantra chanting programs in several locations.
Yoga in Daily Life also took an active part in the official celebration of the International Day of Yoga organized by the Embassy of India in Prague by leading a practical yoga session as a part of the program.
Yoga in Daily Life Czech Republic have also created a new Czech website - www.mezinarodnidenjogy.cz - that collects information about all IDY events in the Czech Republic, regardless of the organizer. All programs listed here have to be admission-free and open to the public.
