Yoga Retreat with Swami Umapuri in Sweden
From 6 - 9 June 2024, the Summer & Light Long Weekend Yoga Retreat with Swami Umapuri was held in Jonstorp, Sweden, attracting local participants from Sweden and several other countries, including Hungary, Germany, Denmark and Austria.
This was the first yoga retreat in Sweden following Vishwaguru Mahamandaleshwar Paramhans Sri Swami Maheshwaranandaji’s visit last year, during which he inaugurated the country’s first Yoga in Daily Life Centre, in Helsingborg. The opening of the centre has initiated a new wave of spiritual development in Sweden and is committed to spreading the ancient wisdom of India.
The yoga retreat in Jonstorp drew numerous yoga devotees and newcomers interested in yoga philosophy and practice. Despite the cool weather, the retreat maintained a warm and friendly atmosphere, enhanced by Swami Umapuri’s insightful and professional guidance.
Participants were introduced to the fundamentals of yoga philosophy, including asanas and pranayama, forming a solid foundation for their practice.
In addition to the inspiring yoga sessions, attendees enjoyed serene walks through the Swedish forest, culminating in picturesque sea views.
On Saturday, the group hiked to the nearby town of Mölle, known as the 'Swedish Riviera' − a well-known vacation destination since the mid-19th century, where many Germans were drawn to after the visit of Emperor Wilhelm II. The cosy atmosphere of the 19th century can still be felt in this seaside town.
Everyone enjoyed freshly prepared vegetarian meals, nourishing both body and soul, and promoting health and well-being for everyone.
On the second day, Tyagpuri from Hungary, another much respected senior Yoga in Daily Life teacher, provided valuable insights into pranayama breathing techniques, supported by the latest scientific evidence that proves the effectiveness of thousands of years of spiritual wisdom of yoga. This blend of traditional knowledge and modern research highlights the enduring benefits of yoga practice.
Through a combination of expert guidance, practical sessions, and nature walks, the retreat provided a comprehensive and enriching experience for all attendees. They departed with renewed inspiration and a deeper understanding of yoga, eager to integrate these teachings into their daily lives and continue their spiritual journeys.
